The Hi Vise is a compact, portable vise that can be used to elevate your work to a more comfortable height for doing detail work. By raising the work about 7″ from the benchtop it is mounted to, it becomes much easier to do a myriad of tasks with more comfort and better visibility.
The hardware is made by Benchcrafted, and is of the highest quality. The vise action is effortless and smooth with the crisscross mechanism keeping the jaws parallel at all times. There is a bit of toe-in built into the vise to ensure good clamping power at the top of the jaws.
The mounting screw had a large cast handwheel for easily mounting and removal of the vise. It can be mounted to a benchtop with a thickness of up to 4 3/8″.
The vise jaws are 4 1/2″ wide with a maximum opening of about 6″. Jaws are lined with cork-neoprene gasket material to prevent marking of the workpiece. The vise handle can be kept centered with a ball detent, or moved to one side for more torque. Leather washers serve as bumpers for the handle.
The vise is partially assembled when shipped, and will need both the vise and mounting screws attached. This makes it easier to ship, and a more compact package.
