A new batch of miter jack vises is now under way and should be completed around the first of the year. The miter jack can be thought of as a shooting board on steroids. The vise jaws and base are coplanar, making for a precision reference face. One side is set at 90 degrees, and the opposite side is at 45 degrees, with an auxiliary jaw set at 22 1/2 degrees. Additionally, its simple to set the workpiece at any angle needed by rotating to any position needed in the jaws.
The real beauty though is parts are planed or pared in the conventional position. This is much easier than having to lay the plane on its side.
